Time to Pivot
My newest incantation……. “I am developing the strength, humor, and creativity to pivot with life as it changes.”
I’m on day 13 of sheltering in place, and while doing a Movement Medicine phoenix practice yesterday it hit me very clearly. I went into practice with the story I have about my professional identity, my need to be an upstanding citizen, and how that lives in my body, movement, and actions. Since childhood, I have experienced sprained ankles and knees. I’m finding that in this solitary time at home I have had the capacity to once again deeply examine my body, bone by bone, muscle by muscle. Tune in and ask what is needed, and listen to how this reflects and resonates with the world outside. The word that kept coming through was PIVOT.
In these unprecedented times of going in, resting, pausing, grieving, crying, fighting, caring, mending, loving and giving, we all must find ways to pivot. Life is changing in ways we have no control over. One thing I can do now is to strengthen my ability to pivot. For me, on the physical plane that means squats and crunches, strengthening quads, hamstrings, and abs. Fine-tuning my diet and making sure I give my body the healthy oils it needs to keep joints moving smoothly. On the mental and emotional plane, for me, it means finding ways to be of service using the structures I have in new and different ways. For example, I’m now offering free online listening/support/coaching to people on the frontlines in healthcare. I’m really happy to be part of the BetterUp coaching community right now, impressed with how the company is pivoting to expand the platform to be of service right now. On the spiritual plane, I’m offering and attending online dance spaces with people I know and love, as well as new people seeking connection. Dancing my heart out quite literally.
How can you pivot to turn this crisis into a creative opportunity?
